It was captured by a 58-year-old python expert from east Java who was summoned to Jambi after locals, who stumbled upon it while foraging for wood, were too afraid to approach it.The expert reportedly needed 65 helpers to snare the python and the blessing of tribal leaders as pythons are regarded as deities by many locals.The python is proving to be a major attraction for the zoo, as about 700 people visit the Curugsewu zoo every day to admire the new but rather lazy star. There have been debates of what snake is the worlds largest snakes. The Anaconda wins this debate with its total boday mass and its weight. The largest anaconda that has been ever measured was about 28 feet long with a girth of 44 inches. What was amazing about this is that the anaconda is a female. Scientist believe that she weighed over 500 pounds. Another snake that may compare with the anaconda is a Asiatic Reticulated Python. LINK
A possible origin for the common name anaconda is the Tamil anaikondran, meaning “elephant killer”, or anaikkonda, meaning “having killed an elephant”. A name first used in English to name a Ceylonese python, it erroneously was applied to a large South American boa, called in Brazil “sucuri”. The word is of uncertain origin, and no snake name like it now is found in Sinhalese or Tamil. Another suggestion is that it represents Tamil. It is unclear how this name originated so far from the snake’s native habitat; possibly this is due to its vague similarity to the large Asian pythons. LINK
